Cantilevered Barn in Cades Cove

Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most popular spots to visit. The 11-mile one-way loop road is situated in a valley with restored historic home sites and churches from the 1800s. This cantilevered barn belongs to the Tipton Place. A barn that is cantilevered is a design in which the upper story was larger than its base.

Entrance to Rich Mountain Road

Cades Cove is one of the most visited sites in the Great Smoky Mountains National Parl. It is an 11-mile one-way loop trail through a valley that was settled in the 1800s. There are numerous cabins and churches along the route. A side road called the Rich Mountain Road comes off the loop route, crosses over the mountains, and connects in Townsend with US 321.

Mingus Mill in the Smokies

Mingus Grist Mill is one of several operating grist mills in the national park. Mingus Mill is on the North Carolina side and still grinds corn the old-fashioned way.

Sunrise on the Smoky Mountains

Sunrise in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are special. There are many overlooks that afford great vistas, especially early morning. This photograph was made from an overlook along US 441, which the road that crosses the border between Tennessee and North Carolina.

The area called Cataloochee, which is situated in a valley with mountains surrounding it. The valley has historic buildings and was settled in the early 1900s.

This iconic photograph was made at the entrance to the oft-visited 11-mile one-way loop through Cades Cove. The Cove has scattered along its route three churches, a working grist mill, barns, log houses, and many other restored structures.
